Something about Those Texas Presidents...

The New York Times, September 3, 1967:

U.S. Encouraged by Vietnam Vote
Officials Cite 83% Turnout Despite Vietcong Terror

by Peter Grose, Special to the New York Times

WASHINGTON, Sept. 3-- United States officials were surprised and heartened today at the size of turnout in South Vietnam's presidential election despite a Vietcong terrorist campaign to disrupt the voting.

According to reports from Saigon, 83 per cent of the 5.85 million registered voters cast their ballots yesterday. Many of them risked reprisals threatened by the Vietcong.

....A successful election has long been seen as the keystone in President Johnson's policy of encouraging the growth of constitutional processes in South Vietnam. The election was the culmination of a constitutional development that began in January, 1966, to which President Johnson gave his personal commitment when he met Premier Ky and General Thieu, the chief of state, in Honolulu in February.

The purpose of the voting was to give legitimacy to the Saigon Government, which has been founded only on coups and power plays since November, 1963, when President Ngo Dinh Deim was overthrown by a military junta.

But I-rack is s-o-o-o-o unlike that...

Bill Gates Is Betting Against the US Dollar

"I'm short the dollar," Mr. Gates, chairman of Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft Corp., said during an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. "The ol' dollar, it's gonna go down."

"It is a bit scary," Mr. Gates said. "We're in uncharted territory when the world's reserve currency has so much outstanding debt." [And climbing, thanks to Dubya]

The U.S. budget shortfall is "the No. 1 risk, disregarding geopolitical risks" to the global economy, German deputy finance minister Caio Koch-Weser said in a Jan. 27 interview in Davos. [Regarding geopolitical risk, Dubya is also No. 1]

"The U.S. should take the lead in putting its own house in order," Chinese central bank adviser Yu Yongding said. "It's the root cause" of global imbalances. [Imbalance is the word, alright.]

More On the Trophy Election

"So, although the elections may be a meaningless exercise of imperial maneuvering, the coup was carried off with considerable skill.

For one thing, the western media proved, once again, its breathtaking range and ability. All the major televised media featured virtually the same lead without one dissonant voice. They praised the 'brave Iraqis who put themselves at risk to enjoy the blessings of democracy'. This 'objective' account was accompanied by footage of mile-long lines of expectant Iraqis waiting to cast their first vote in free elections. No mention was made of the fact that (as Robert Fisk noted) that the world media was limited to exactly 5 polling stations that were secured by legions of troops and armored vehicles in predominantly Shiite areas to give the impression of widespread participation.

In keeping with the (Karl) Rovian philosophy of political hi-jinks, the streets were swept-clean, the cement barricades were hidden from view, and the rolls of razor-wire were scrupulously kept off camera. All signs of city under siege were effectively concealed. It was a solid effort on the part of the White House producers who slapped this comedy together. Particularly admirable were the scenes of enraptured Iraqis waving flags and gyrating with abandon on the streets of Baghdad. What American could watch such a heartwarming demonstration of elation and not feel choked-up by the great gift Bush has bestowed on these simple people.

Alas, it was all a hoax as well. As Robert Fisk opines in his latest article in the UK Independent, he stumbled on 'three truckloads of youths, all brandishing Iraqi flags-like the unemployed who have been sticking posters to Baghdad's walls-paid by the government to 'advertise' the election. And there was a cameraman from state television.'"

Mike Whitney: Iraq's electoral fiasco

Funny, That Wasn't Mentioned on Faux TV....

"Wanna hear something people don't know too? These elections are not only to chose a parliament!! they are also to chose a municipality!! people will go to vote twice, two deferent ballots and two deferent boxes, in the same location and the same day, and no one knows about this!
Here is one new information for you!
Did you know that the 'ration' card of year 2005, that allows you to take sugar, flower and few other things too, which have been the main resource for Iraqi families' food since early nineties, will not be given except for those who will vote? [emphasis mine... SP]
When you go to the voting center they give you a paper that allows you to take the card from the ratio shop in your neighbor!
Freedom... democracy... yahhhhoooooo! cheer up Iraqis and live happy!
The way the elections will happen is that people will write the number of the 'list' that they want to vote for, that lists contains so many parties and people that no one knows their names, EXCEPT!:
The Shea list, which is now a religious duty to vote for, that is more important than praying and fasting, as Sistani said when he 'ordered' Shea to go vote, and I am sure he didn't mean that he wants people to vote for the communist party, do you?
And the other one that we all know is, guess who? Yes! Allawi! He, unlike all others, had the chance to declare his name since people already know him and he has all the American protection, so there is nothing to be worried about, or is there?"

Shop! In the Name of Love...

Do you feel like you're shopping for love in all the wrong places? Have red politics rendered Valentine's Day obsolete for you in the face of endless corporate meddling? Don't worry! BuyBlue.org has planned a totally titillating alternative to your annual Valentine's Day rut. This year, your dilemma ends, but only if you support the Democratic donkey (aka ass), because truly, nobody ever enjoyed a good piece of elephant.

Start with a thoughtful gift. Hershey's chocolates or Whitman's Samplers are standard (5% and 0% ratings)[the higher the % the bluer the company], as is Victoria's Secret underwear (16%), but they're no fun when the cash you spend supports neocon cupids eternally dancing in your head. Instead, opt for the 100% blue hue of sweet sugar plum fairies when you buy Ghirardelli, Fiaretto, or Caffarel chocolates. Don't be afraid to shun Victoria's airbrushed secret for the more romantic, real or bold lingerie styles of Gap Body (78%), American Apparel (100%), and Frederick's of Hollywood (100%). Further, indulge yourselves with progressive jewelry (Signet Group 94%) and liberally consumed (and produced!) alcohol (i.e. Gallo Winery 92%; E&J 92%, Brown-Forman 57%). These are the things that make true love thrive, with very little outsourcing!

Just Let Us Get Our Hands on Your Pension Money: You Can Trust Us...

"I look forward to blah-blahing to the blah-blah about the blah-blah need to blah-blah big reforms like blah-blah,'' Bush said in public [therefore essentially meaningless] remarks to Republican lawmakers before a closed-door strategy meeting [if it's so good for us, why a strategy?] in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. He'll make campaign-style appearances about getting government hands on your Social Security pension, events the White House dares not call calls "blah-blah" in North Dakota, Montana, Arkansas, Nebraska and Florida.

Blah-blah Meanwhile, keep your hand on your wallet.

"Barking Dog" Is Exactly Right

On Hardball Chris Matthews asked Robert Redford:

Matthews: "You were accused of saying that you were going to Ireland if Bush wins."

Redford: "Yeah, I think that came from O'Reilly. It wasn't true... I'm an American and I love it here and I'm not leaving because of some barking dog on T.V."

"Barking dog" is exactly right: the shrilly irritating, pointless noise of an unbalanced animal, usually chained, that belongs to someone else.

With Bribes Like This, No Wonder He Got Elected!

Still trust those standard media?

"One day after President Bush ordered his Cabinet secretaries to stop hiring commentators to help promote administration initiatives [ha ha], and one day after the second high-profile conservative pundit was found to be on the federal payroll [shocking], a third embarrassing hire has emerged [who'd a thought? caught us all by complete surprise!]. Salon has confirmed that Michael McManus, a marriage advocate [one of those believers for whom marriage is a very shaky thing to begin with] whose syndicated column, "Ethics & Religion," [interesting, how they can be separated like that] appears in 50 newspapers, was hired as a subcontractor by the Department of Health and Human Services to foster a Bush-approved marriage initiative. McManus championed the plan in his columns without disclosing to readers he was being paid to help it succeed."

Guess the separation of ethics and religion makes it easy to lie.

The King of Jordan, Like about 3 Billion Other People, Disagree with Dubya

"King of Jordan: New Iraqi Government Could Be Disastrous

George W. Bush's promise to bring democracy to Iraq and the Middle East is a grave mistake. That at least is the widespread view among Arab leaders, including the moderate, pro-American leadership of Jordan.

'You cannot have proper elections with violence occurring. The Americans are wrong to think that violence will end with the elections. If anything it will get worse, much worse,"says Mr Zaid El-Rifal, president of the Jordanian Senate.

'If democracy, real democracy, were established across the Middle East, every country would be an enemy of the United States. To have a stable democracy - one that nurtures the values that the West appreciates - there needs to be a core middle class,' says Mr El-Rifal, adding, 'But this is lacking in most Middle Eastern states where the majority live below the poverty line. That's why democracy will feed extremism.'

In recent weeks, the young King of Jordan, Abdullah the Second, has warned Washington that the elections in Iraq set - at U.S. insistence - for January 30th should be delayed.

Far from solving Iraq's problems, all the signs are that the elections could trigger a crisis of untold proportions across the Middle East. The Sunni boycott, the attacks on candidates by insurgents and the numerical superiority of the Shiite population, all suggest Baghdad will have a Shiite government.

Such a result, the King and other leaders in the region fear, could be disastrous for both Iraq and the peace of the region.

Why?"

WHY WE ARE REALLY IN IRAQ

JOHN PERKINS: Basically what we were trained to do and what our job is to do is to build up the American empire. To bring – to create situations where as many resources as possible flow into this country, to our corporations, and our government, and in fact we’ve been very successful. We’ve built the largest empire in the history of the world. It's been done over the last 50 years since World War II with very little military might, actually. It's only in rare instances like Iraq where the military comes in as a last resort. This empire, unlike any other in the history of the world, has been built primarily through economic manipulation, through cheating, through fraud, through seducing people into our way of life, through the economic hit men. I was very much a part of that.

AMY GOODMAN: How did you become one? Who did you work for?

JOHN PERKINS: Well, I was initially recruited while I was in business school back in the late sixties by the National Security Agency, the nation's largest and least understood spy organization; but ultimately I worked for private corporations. The first real economic hit man was back in the early 1950's, Kermit Roosevelt, the grandson of Teddy, who overthrew of government of Iran, a democratically elected government, Mossadegh’s government who was Time's magazine person of the year; and he was so successful at doing this without any bloodshed – well, there was a little bloodshed, but no military intervention, just spending millions of dollars and replaced Mossadegh with the Shah of Iran. At that point, we understood that this idea of economic hit man was an extremely good one. We didn't have to worry about the threat of war with Russia when we did it this way. The problem with that was that Roosevelt was a C.I.A. agent. He was a government employee. Had he been caught, we would have been in a lot of trouble. It would have been very embarrassing. So, at that point, the decision was made to use organizations like the C.I.A. and the N.S.A. to recruit potential economic hit men like me and then send us to work for private consulting companies, engineering firms, construction companies, so that if we were caught, there would be no connection with the government.

AMY GOODMAN: Okay. Explain the company you worked for.

JOHN PERKINS: Well, the company I worked for was a company named Chas. T. Main in Boston, Massachusetts. We were about 2,000 employees, and I became its chief economist. I ended up having fifty people working for me. But my real job was deal-making. It was giving loans to other countries, huge loans, much bigger than they could possibly repay. One of the conditions of the loan – let's say a $1 billion to a country like Indonesia or Ecuador – and this country would then have to give ninety percent of that loan back to a U.S. company, or U.S. companies, to build the infrastructure – a Halliburton or a Bechtel. These were big ones. Those companies would then go in and build an electrical system or ports or highways, and these would basically serve just a few of the very wealthiest families in those countries. The poor people in those countries would be stuck ultimately with this amazing debt that they couldn’t possibly repay. A country today like Ecuador owes over fifty percent of its national budget just to pay down its debt. And it really can’t do it. So, we literally have them over a barrel. So, when we want more oil, we go to Ecuador and say, Look, you're not able to repay your debts, therefore give our oil companies your Amazon rain forest, which are filled with oil. And today we're going in and destroying Amazonian rain forests, forcing Ecuador to give them to us because they’ve accumulated all this debt. So we make this big loan, most of it comes back to the United States, the country is left with the debt plus lots of interest, and they basically become our servants, our slaves. It's an empire. There's no two ways about it. It’s a huge empire. It's been extremely successful…

…And when the National Security Agency recruited me, they put me through a day of lie detector tests. They found out all my weaknesses and immediately seduced me. They used the strongest drugs in our culture, sex, power and money, to win me over. I come from a very old New England family, Calvinist, steeped in amazingly strong moral values. I think I, you know, I’m a good person overall, and I think my story really shows how this system and these powerful drugs of sex, money and power can seduce people, because I certainly was seduced. And if I hadn't lived this life as an economic hit man, I think I'd have a hard time believing that anybody does these things. And that's why I wrote the book, because our country really needs to understand, if people in this nation understood what our foreign policy is really about, what foreign aid is about, how our corporations work, where our tax money goes, I know we will demand change.

AMY GOODMAN: We're talking to John Perkins. In your book, you talk about how you helped to implement a secret scheme that funneled billions of dollars of Saudi Arabian petrol dollars back into the U.S. economy, and that further cemented the intimate relationship between the House of Saud and successive U.S. administrations. Explain.

JOHN PERKINS: Yes, it was a fascinating time. I remember well, you're probably too young to remember, but I remember well in the early seventies how OPEC exercised this power it had, and cut back on oil supplies. We had cars lined up at gas stations. The country was afraid that it was facing another 1929-type of crash depression; and this was unacceptable. So,… we went to Saudi Arabia in the early seventies. We knew Saudi Arabia was the key to dropping our dependency, or to controlling the situation. And we worked out this deal whereby the Royal House of Saud agreed to send most of their petro-dollars back to the United States and invest them in U.S. government securities. The Treasury Department would use the interest from these securities to hire U.S. companies to build Saudi Arabia new cities, new infrastructure which we’ve done. And the House of Saud would agree to maintain the price of oil within acceptable limits to us, which they’ve done all of these years, and we would agree to keep the House of Saud in power as long as they did this, which we’ve done, which is one of the reasons we went to war with Iraq in the first place. And in Iraq we tried to implement the same policy that was so successful in Saudi Arabia, but Saddam Hussein didn't buy. When the economic hit men fail in this scenario, the next step is what we call the jackals. Jackals are C.I.A.-sanctioned people that come in and try to foment a coup or revolution. If that doesn't work, they perform assassinations. Or try to. In the case of Iraq, they weren't able to get through to Saddam Hussein. He had – His bodyguards were too good. He had doubles. They couldn’t get through to him. So the third line of defense, if the economic hit men and the jackals fail, the next line of defense is our young men and women, who are sent in to die and kill, which is what we’ve obviously done in Iraq.

AMY GOODMAN: Can you explain how Torrijos died?

JOHN PERKINS: Omar Torrijos, the President of Panama. Omar Torrijos had signed the Canal Treaty with Carter much – and, you know, it passed our congress by only one vote. It was a highly contended issue. And Torrijos then also went ahead and negotiated with the Japanese to build a sea-level canal. The Japanese wanted to finance and construct a sea-level canal in Panama. Torrijos talked to them about this which very much upset Bechtel Corporation, whose president was George Schultz and senior council was Casper Weinberger. When Carter was thrown out (and that’s an interesting story how that actually happened), when he lost the election, and Reagan came in and Schultz came in as Secretary of State from Bechtel, and Weinberger came from Bechtel to be Secretary of Defense, they were extremely angry at Torrijos – tried to get him to renegotiate the Canal Treaty and not to talk to the Japanese. He adamantly refused. He was a very principled man. He had his problem, but he was a very principled man. He was an amazing man, Torrijos. And so, he died in a fiery airplane crash, which was connected to a tape recorder with explosives in it, which – I was there. I had been working with him. I knew that we economic hit men had failed. I knew the jackals were closing in on him, and the next thing, his plane exploded with a tape recorder with a bomb in it. There's no question in my mind that it was C.I.A. sanctioned, and most – many Latin American investigators have come to the same conclusion. Of course, we never heard about that in our country.

AMY GOODMAN: So, where – when did your change your heart happen?

JOHN PERKINS: I felt guilty throughout the whole time, but I was seduced. The power of these drugs, sex, power, and money, was extremely strong for me. And, of course, I was doing things I was being patted on the back for. I was chief economist. I was doing things that Robert McNamara liked and so on.

AMY GOODMAN: How closely did you work with the World Bank?

JOHN PERKINS: Very, very closely with the World Bank. The World Bank provides most of the money that’s used by economic hit men, it and the I.M.F. But when 9/11 struck, I had a change of heart. I knew the story had to be told because what happened at 9/11 is a direct result of what the economic hit men are doing. And the only way that we're going to feel secure in this country again and that we're going to feel good about ourselves is if we use these systems we’ve put into place to create positive change around the world. I really believe we can do that. I believe the World Bank and other institutions can be turned around and do what they were originally intended to do, which is help reconstruct devastated parts of the world. Help – genuinely help poor people. There are twenty-four thousand people starving to death every day. We can change that.

AMY GOODMAN: John Perkins, I want to thank you very much for being with us. John Perkins' book is called, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man.

Taxes for War?

"Given that a) there is no law requiring you to pay income tax and b) the income taxes that are being paid are being fraudulenty expropriated into the pockets of international gangsters (read 'bankers'), it follows that c) YOUR WHOLE NOTION OF SOCIAL, ECONOMIC, AND POLITICAL REALITY IS A LIE! And a search for truth will prove to be a dangerous thing, because an honest attempt to disprove what you have been reading will lead you to the realization that you only pay income taxes for one reason -- and one reason only: FEAR.

Herein lie the discovery, the shame, the outrage, and the need for commitment. You have been had because you were too fat, dumb, and happy to pay attention to the abundant clues. You made sure you and your family got as big a piece of the pie as you could, and then closed your eyes to what the baker might be doing to the rest of the human family. Well, I have news for you. What the baker has been doing to the rest of the human family may very well be done to YOU in the relatively near future, and, I guarantee you, will be done to your children and their children in the next decade or two."

Halliburton Needs a New Pair of Shoes

Bushwinkle wants 80 billion more shrinking bucks to pay for the Bush wars in Afghaniran. That will make this the biggest US deficit in history, and a complete joke of the joker's promise to halve the deficit by 2009. Maybe find some WMDs while he's at it. Winkle says the funding "makes clear to terrorists that our resolve is firm, and we will complete our mission." He loves that resolve (read bonehead) mission stuff that lower-class kids get maimed and killed carrying out while he struts in the oval office, on battleship decks or atop piles of Manhattan rubble he's responsible for. None of this would have happened if he hadn't completely ignored those clear terrorist warnings back in 2001 ("I just don't wanna see these guys hijack a 747 and fly it into the World Trade Center"), or hadn't put Condi in charge of the intelligence hierarchy. Now in an even greater travesty (this guy is pure travesty!) she's in charge of even more. With those two at the top, I think the wise thing might be to just leave the country.

How We Took the Wrong Turn that Led to Dubya

"Picture a party of the nation's greatest bankers stealing out of New York on a private railroad car under cover of darkness, stealthily hieing hundreds of miles South, embarking on a mysterious launch, sneaking on to an island deserted by all but a few servants, living there a full week under such rigid secrecy that the names of not one of them was once mentioned lest the servants learn the identity and disclose to the world this strangest, most secret expedition in the history of American finance."

The Bush Crime Family Tree

"George Walker, GW's great-grandfather, set up the takeover of the Hamburg-America Line, a cover for I.G. Farben's Nazi espionage unit in the United States. In Germany, I.G. Farben was most famous for putting the gas in gas chambers; it was the producer of Zyklon B and other gasses used on victims of the Holocaust. The Bush family was not unaware of the nature of their investment partners. They hired Allen Dulles, the future head of the CIA, to hide the funds they were making from Nazi investments and the funds they were sending to Nazi Germany, rather than divest. It was only in 1942, when the government seized Union Banking Company assets under the Trading With The Enemy Act, that George Walker and Prescott Bush stopped pumping money into Hitler's regime.

Prescott Bush, the president's grandfather. According to classified documents from Dutch intelligence and US government archives, President George W. Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush made considerable profits off Auschwitz slave labor. In fact, President Bush himself is an heir to these profits from the holocaust which were placed in a blind trust in 1980 by his father, former president George Herbert Walker Bush. On the 20th of October, the government commenced action against the company under the trading with the enemy act. After the seizures in late 1942 of five U.S. enterprises he managed on behalf of Nazi industrialist Fritz Thyssen failed to divest himself of more than a dozen 'enemy national' relationships that continued until as late as 1951, newly-discovered U.S. government documents reveal. In 1952, Prescott Bush was elected to the U.S. Senate, with no press accounts about his well-concealed Nazi past."

Dubya Reaches Number 6

"6. George W. Bush

Crimes: Too numerous to mention. The worst piece of shit ever to run this country, including King George III; when’s the last time a president made half his country want to move to Canada? Lays claim to the legacy of Jesus Christ as he hungrily sucks what little life-essence is left from the world. Appears to be only dimly aware that he is destroying the future, but seems to think it’s kind of funny.

Smoking Gun: Too numerous to mention.

Punishment: To have his fortune stolen from him by Cheney, Rumsfeld, Perle and Wolfowitz, and be denied Medicaid."

So THAT's Why It's Gonzales: Covering up a Dubya DUI

"Senate Democrats put off a vote on White House counsel Alberto Gonzales's nomination to be attorney general, complaining he had provided evasive answers to questions about torture and the mistreatment of prisoners. But Gonzales's most surprising answer may have come on a different subject: his role in helping President Bush escape jury duty in a drunken-driving case involving a dancer at an Austin strip club in 1996. The judge and other lawyers in the case last week disputed a written account of the matter provided by Gonzales to the Senate Judiciary Committee. 'It's a complete misrepresentation,' said David Wahlberg, lawyer for the dancer, about Gonzales's account."

A Factoid for My Republican Friends

"I used to be a Republican myself. If we total all the deficits during Reagan, 1981-88, Bush I, 1989-92, and Bush II, 2001-04, and all the interest payments on that debt, to-date, it would come pretty close to all the Federal Debt outstanding! The last budget surplus was during Clinton and one before that was under Johnson, known for his Great Society programs. Bush II has proven to be the most financially irresponsible President that we know about. [Emphasis mine: SP] Propaganda that Republicans are good for the economy persists. Herbert Hoover was a Republican! (I believe that Herbert Hoover was ten times better man than Bush II and a far more competent man; he was a good man but at the wrong time on the Longwave calendar). If my prognostication comes true, Bush II couldn't have picked the worst time to get re-elected."

Whole bleak story

He Lied about WMDs, Why Not About Social Security?

Lying is the M.O. for these people. They want to get their hands on that money to prop up the deathbed stock market just a little bit longer so all the cronies (they danced at the inaugural) have time to get their money out, leave the little pro-Bush folks (pensionless too) holding the empty bag they deserve for electing him. (Non-Bush voters are smart enough to get out before it all comes down.)

"Key Republicans in Congress on Sunday questioned White House assertions that the Social Security system was in crisis, one of President George W. Bush's justifications for acting now on private accounts, and said new taxes should be considered.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas said on NBC's 'Meet the Press' that Congress should 'look beyond' the payroll tax to fund the Social Security retirement system and consider a value-added tax and other changes.

Thomas called the retirement system's finances a 'problem' rather than a crisis, distancing himself from the crisis terminology used by the White House in seeking public support for creating private accounts.

Democrats and other critics say Bush, by warning of a crisis, is trying to scare Americans into supporting his plan to let workers shift part of their Social Security payroll taxes into private accounts to invest in stocks and bonds."

The Ruling Elite Will Profit Greatly from Your Loss

"Therefore, if it comes to a choice between sacrificing the U.S. stock market and/or the U.S. economy by throwing it into a depression so as to save the dollar and the bond market, I have no doubt such steps would be taken. There is little doubt in my mind that that is what the ruling elite will do, not only because their very existence will depend on it, but also because they will have positioned themselves in advance to profit from a catastrophic economic decline of us common folks. The notion that we have policy makers who sincerely care about the American people is of course a notion that must be fostered to maintain civil order. But I think if you read books like "The Creature from Jekyll Island" by G. Edward Griffin, or "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" or "The Shadows of Power" by James Perloff, to name just three sources, you will begin to understand that the President and the Congress are more or less puppets to those who fund their campaigns and print the money to keep government debt financed. In other words, the banks, major corporations, and the folks that have been cashing out of stocks over the past few years even as CNBC continues to encourage you to keep putting your 401-k money into stocks.

So, will President Bush and Alan Greenspan or his successor have the courage to throw the U.S. housing market, the U.S. economy, and the stock market to the wolves in order to restore balance to the global markets and thus save the dollar? I don't know about the courage of President Bush or the Fed Chairman. But what I am more confident about is that ultimately Mr. Bush will be guided to make the decisions that benefit the ruling elite, and when those choices conflict with the best interests of the American people, the American people will just have to suffer."

Some Pilot We've Got

It is well known that when informed of the first plane smashing into the World Trade Center George Bush said "that's some bad pilot." What is not so well known is that when informed of the second collision he said "Jesus! It's not the same guy again is it?"

Put that guy in charge of the United States AT ONCE!!

America Now a Bully, Like Bush

"'I do not think the Americans would do such a crazy thing as carry out military attacks against Iran,' Iranian President Mohammad Khatami told state radio during a visit to Uganda.

'We believe the possibility of America attacking Iran is very low, as it is involved in other places,' he said. 'The Iraqi problem is too complicated and so it does not seem they would think about attacking another country.'"

I've always despised bullies, of whatever cowardly stripe, but I never thought America would be one. Imagine another country saying about the United States of America the kind of thing that used to be said about the USSR and Nazi Germany. A sad day, a sadder inauguration. And to think that some folks are actually proud of this world-scale incompetent. Even worse, some are saying this begins the Bush Dynasty. So much for the much-touted 'wisdom' of democracy.

With a mind like that in the White House, what can possibly go right?

The Rest of the World Reads Bush Like a Book

"Mistrust also runs deep among ordinary people. Some 58 percent of people surveyed in a British Broadcasting Corporation poll in 21 countries said they believed Bush's re-election made the world a more dangerous place.

'Negative feelings about Bush are high,' Steven Kull, director of the Program on International Policy Attitudes which carried out the study, told the BBC. 'This is quite a grim picture for the United States.'"

"Grim." Even worse than substandard.

Bush Nearly 50% Not There

"...A CBS News tally shows that President Bush is now making his 38th visit to his Prairie Chapel ranch since taking office. Add up the number of full or partial days he has been there - it comes out to 254.

That's about 20 percent of his presidency. Add in his time at Camp David and the Bush family home in Kennebunkport, Maine, and the percentage more than doubles. And the White House is self-conscious about it..."

A slight minority of US voters know he's not all there anyway.

Dubya Keeps His Head Firmly Up There

"According to Chas Freeman, former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia and head of the independent Middle East Policy Council, Mr. Bush recently asked [Secretary of State Colin] Powell for his view on the progress of the war. ‘We're losing,' Mr. Powell was quoted as saying. Mr. Freeman said Mr. Bush then asked the secretary of state to leave."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"There is rising concern among senior officials that President Bush does not grasp the increasingly grim reality of the security situation in Iraq because he refuses to listen to that type of information. Our sources say that attempts to brief Bush on various grim realities have been personally rebuffed by the President, who actually says that he does not want to hear ‘bad news.' Rather, Bush makes clear that all he wants are progress reports, where they exist, and those facts which seem to support his declared mission in Iraq… building democracy. ‘That's all he wants to hear about,' we have been told. So, ‘in' are the latest totals on school openings and ‘out' are reports from senior U.S. military commanders (and those intelligence experts still on the job) that they see an insurgency becoming increasing effective, and their projection that it will ‘just get worse.'"
Soldier With Ill Son Called Back to Fight in Bush's War
"Small, frail but rambunctious, 16-month-old Will Fitzpatrick suffers from multiple birth defects. He'll need a second open-heart operation within six months and a transplant if he makes it into his teens.
His parents, Terry and Susan Fitzpatrick, have juggled their work schedules to provide the constant care Will needs -- daily medication, supplemental feedings through a gastric tube and regular sessions with his doctors and physical therapists.
Now the Fitzpatricks are facing a new crisis: The Army has ordered Terry, who was honorably discharged in 2000, back into uniform for duty in Iraq.
He is among more than 4,400 members of the Individual Ready Reserve who have been ordered back into the Army although they have completed their enlistments and are not required to attend Reserve drills and meetings.
The Fitzpatricks take turns caring for Will, with Terry working days and Susan mostly nights."
Dubya coulda weaseled outta this easy, with his daddy's pull, and then 30 years later be illicitly elected president! (With his daddy's connections, coupled with the intelligence of the American public.) Guess it's harder when you've got a regular dad, a GENUINE Honorable Discharge and no missing records. Still it's ironic that Dubya, with his terrible precedent for a president should be calling this guy back to duty to fight in Bush's Vietnam. Bush Says Election Proves Majority of Americans No Smarter than He Is
"Americans effectively expressed their support for the war on Iraq by re-electing him, President George W. Bush said in an interview, calling the 2004 election an 'accountability moment' for his administration's handling of the war. [And inferring that the majority of Americans are boneheaded and incompetent.]
'I am realistic about how quickly a society that has been dominated by a tyrant can become a democracy. [And vice-versa]
'Success in Iraq will depend upon the Iraqis defeating the enemy [i. e., Iraqis],' he said.
[W]hen asked twice when US troops could be brought home from Iraq, he would not give a time frame but answered, "as quickly as possible." [I. e., when we get control of the oil (read: "NEVER")]
'American troops will be leaving as quickly as possible, but they won't be leaving until we have completed our mission,' Bush told the paper." ['Our mission.' God, he loves this stuff! Without of course going to even one of the nearly 1500 funerals of the soldiers who have died for the folly of Bush's War.]
Welcome to what Bush says you said, all you red-staters. Hope you and your military-aged children and grandchildren like having a psycho in charge of your future.
Bush Says 'Tsunami Aid Helps U.S. Image' without Cracking Up
Well, the US image definitely does need some help in the Muslim world, what with all those civilian casualties in Bush's War, the pointless invasion and insulting occupation of Iraq with no end in sight, US casualties climbing among a discontented soldiery that too has been lied to, under-equipped and otherwise ill-used. Yes, a bit of an image problem. About 50 more tsunamis might make a dent in what you've done to the US image, George. By the time the end of your term rolls around, when the money's all gone and there's no point for you to stay on anyway, even the folks in the red states will thank the lord for the two-term limit, 'cause maybe then their sons can come home.
Paying $1100 a Barrel for Oil, and Why Dubya Wants Your Social Security Money
"Why are we not buying our oil from Canada for $45 per barrel, but instead, stealing it from the Iraqis at a cost of around $1,100 a barrel? Information gained from the Energy Information Administration (http://eia.doe.gov/) provides this data. When the number of barrels of Iraqi oil that we have imported is divided into the $300 billion we have spent on the war so far, the number comes to about $1,100 per barrel. From an accountant's standpoint, this doesn't seem like a very good deal.
Who's getting the $1100 per barrel? Certainly not the Iraqis. The money is going to Haliburton, Ratheon, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin, (among many others). Where is the $1100 a barrel coming from? Why it’s coming from continuing loans to the Government by the Federal Reserve. Where does the Federal Reserve get all this money? Why, they invent it, (the term counterfeiting comes to mind.) Who's responsible for paying back the billions and billions of funny money that the Government is spending, and the interest accrued on that funny money? Good question. If your answer is "the American People", you are not entirely correct.
There are two groups in the U.S. that don't pay taxes. Those two groups consist of the very poor, and the ultra rich. As a result, the middle class has been bestowed with the sole economic responsibility of repaying the obscene abomination known as the national debt. It's not enough for the middle class to support those who are unable to work as well as those who choose not to, but to also provide the a major source of wealth that is being siphoned off by the Central Bankers and distributed to the elitists.
....
Enter, Social Security Reform. Now politicians are suggesting that federal withholding revenues be redirected into the stock market. Wow! What an idea. That should keep the markets inflated for a little while longer. It could certainly give the Fed a new a new source of wealth to siphon off. But wait. One of the biggest myths about Social Security is that there is any money in the Social Security trust fund. The fund has been systematically tapped and squandered by every administration since its inception. It was an unconstitutional sleight of hand to begin with. It is, and has always been a Ponzi scheme, which depends on new workers to pay the old workers. Maybe that is why the present administration is doing everything in its power to tear down the borders and accommodate as many illegal aliens as possible. Maybe that's why they're attempting to raise the age of retirement. The privatization of Social Security is simply one more scheme to siphon off the wealth of the middle class through commissions and fees, and keep the stock and bond markets inflated for a little while longer. Do you see a pattern emerging here?" [Emphasis mine. S. P.]
NOT ONE DAMN DIME DAY
"Since our leaders don't have the moral courage to speak out against the war in Iraq, Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is 'Not One Damn Dime Day' in America.
On 'Not One Damn Dime Day' those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending.
During 'Not One Damn Dime Day' please don't spend money, and don't use your credit card. Not one damn dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for necessities or for impulse purchases. Nor toll/cab/bus or train ride money exchanges. Not one damn dime for anything for 24 hours.
On 'Not One Damn Dime Day,' please boycott Walmart, KMart and Target. Please don't go to the mall or the local convenience store. Please don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that matter).
For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail economy down. The object is simple. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it."
Bush Chooses Jesse Helms Clone as Domestic Policy Adviser
(Might as well try the back door.)
"Bush has chosen Claude Allen, the Department of Health and Human Services' No. 2 official, to be his domestic policy adviser, responsible for shaping all White House proposals and decisions on domestic issues, press secretary Scott McClellan said Wednesday.
Bush nominated Allen to a federal appeals court, the 4th Circuit based in Richmond, in April 2003 and again a year ago, but Allen never received a vote in the Senate. During his confirmation hearing, Allen was questioned about his use of the word "queer" when he was a press aide to Sen. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., in 1984. Allen said he didn't intend it as a slur against gay people."
Perhaps he merely meant people who were 'singularly strange,' like Jesse, or Bush himself? Jesse at least admitted his gross prejudices.
Powell IQ Slipping to Bush Level
His intelligence slipping even further than thought possible under the influence of the Bush administration, Secretary of State Colin L. Powell apparently believes that Muslims will overlook the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent Muslim civilians in Bush's War, saying that images of the American military delivering supplies to tsunami victims might [he left a loophole though] improve the standing of the United States among Muslims around the world.
"We'd be doing it regardless of religion," Mr. Powell told reporters here. "But I think it does give the Muslim world and the rest of the world an opportunity to see American generosity, American values in action - that we care about every individual and the dignity of every individual."
Pat Buchanan Attacks Your President, Not Mine
"President Bush needs to go on national television and tell us the unvarnished truth. Why are we still there? For some of Bush's countrymen, there is a sense of having been had, of having been made victim to one of the great bait-and-switches in the history of warfare.
The president, his War Cabinet and the neocon punditocracy sold us on this war by implying Saddam was implicated in 9-11, that he had a vast arsenal of chemical and biological weapons, that he was working on an atom bomb, that he would transfer his terror weapons to Al Qaeda. We had to invade, destroy and disarm his axis-of-evil regime. Only thus could we be secure.
None of this was true..."
